Subject:

Scene from the daily life of yesteryear

"With Les Fenêtres, finally, the dichotomy between the old and the modern is refined and becomes more subtle. Two windows with shutters and topped with low pediments let you see the interior of the rooms. On the right, a woman is working on her hairstyle with the help of her maid. On the left, under the benevolent gaze of an adult, a child plays with a kite whose components simulate aircraft wings. Promise of the world, the child escapes and flies away on his flying machine, while next to it the tradition of master and slave is perpetuated and with it the stigmata of a world doomed to disappear, symbolized, on the windowsill, by a still life in the true sense of the word."
Christophe Flubacher, Catalogue of the exhibition "Habiter la modernité" p. 217/219

Triple framing | Dynamic linkage

Sepia tempera

This range of almost monochrome colours allows Italo to make a sober commentary on the evolution of society, stripped of all artifice and focused on a very Latin atmosphere by the classicism of the shapes and the soft contrast of the light.

Background

Period:

1985-1988: Reminiscences and fantasy

In the crucible of his quest in the heart of reality, Italo reconnects with the imagination of his youth by using wash or tempera: so many scenes that he enjoys with tenderness and nostalgia.
