Two fresh and tempting persimmons attached to a twig, laid on an infinite surface.
Composition:
Figure and background. The persimmons (the figure), slightly off-centre to make room for the twig and their shadow, the only elements that locate them on a surface (the bottom), which is not defined, so as not to compete with the presence of the persimmons.
Medium:
Italo pushes watercolour to the limits of realism, making the skin of persimmons matt.
Pallet:
A choice of colours whose variations remain limited to the tones of the khakis, the background being almost uniform. Italo achieves the imposing presence of the persimmons with a quasi-calligraphic touch, at once bold, precise and descriptive.
Period:
With the independence gained for their children, Italo and Vincent also find their own: they leave graphic arts and silkscreen printing and blossom in the plastic arts. Vincent expresses his imagination mainly through oil painting and drawing, exclusively in his studio. Italo, always on the subject, pursues his contemplation of landscape, his wonder in front of nature, and goes from oil painting to washing through watercolour, tempera, charcoal, lead pencil or sanguine and is initiated to sculpture in wrought iron.
